Competitions Biggs Shot 2018

U.S. Multi-State Deadline: November 2, 2018 – The Biggs Museum of American Art presents Biggs Shot 2018, the fifth juried photography competition and exhibition featuring the work of professional and emerging photographers, working and/or living in the Mid-Atlantic region. The theme for Biggs Shot 2018 is open, and any photographic medium can be submitted for consideration, including film, video and digital formats.
The competition is open to all photographers, both amateur and professional of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
David Norbut (b. 1982) is a portrait and music photographer with an intense passion for shooting street and documentary work. His photographs have been published in The Guardian, The New York Times and have been exhibited in several galleries around the globe. David is drawn to capturing the raw beauty of the people he meets and the environments surrounding us. He is based in Wilmington, Delaware.
The selected photographs will be showcased in the Biggs Shot 2018 exhibition at the Biggs Museum from December 7, 2018 – January 27, 2019. First Place – $1,500 Purchase Prize.
A non-refundable fee of $35 entitles the photographer to submit three works to the competition. Additional works (up to 6 total) may be submitted for $5 per work.
All entries must be received or postmarked by November 2, 2018. Completed entries must include the entry form, payment of entry fee, submitted electronic files and a copy of the entrant’s resume/artist statement.
The selected photographs will be announced on the Biggs Museum website November 9th. Photographers with selected photographs will also be notified by mail/email and will receive details for delivery and presentation of work for the exhibition. Selected works must be delivered to the Biggs Museum no later than November 30, 2018.
All works must be submitted electronically via e-mail or CD. Only submissions following the proper format as outlined below will be accepted.
A. Label the electronic file with your last name and title of the work
B. Send the submitted image must be between 2 and 4 MB in either Tiff or JPEG format
*The Biggs Museum reserves the right to amend a selection if an actual print differs significantly from a slide or digital representation.
Applicants must indicate prior to the selection process if their works are for sale. The Biggs Museum retains a 25% commission on all works sold in the galleries and will issue checks to the photographers after the exhibition closes. Exhibited works must be removed from the museum no later than February 3, 2019.
The Biggs Museum will insure the selected works against theft, damage and loss while on view. The Biggs Museum reserves the right to reproduce selected works for marketing purposes. Photographers retain all other rights.
